Assessment and Fees

We at Equipment for Independence Ltd are committed to supporting you to choose the right equipment to meet your needs at the right time. We endeavour to provide support and advice when choosing equipment. Advice given will be provided, in the first instance, by phone. There will be no fee for the first 30 minute telephone consultation with the occupational therapist and there will be no obligation to buy. Advice given will be provided to the best of the occupational therapist clinical knowledge and where possible will be evidenced based. However the occupational therapist cannot be held legally responsible for advice given or equipment purchased as this remains the customer’s choice.

If further consultation is required then a charge for a complex assessment will be incurred.

A complex assessment is defined as requiring up to 3 hours professional time.

This may include, but not limited to, a home visit carried out by a qualified occupational therapist to assess the home environment for equipment and minor adaptations. Such equipment may include outdoor powered wheelchairs and buggies, access to the home, manual handling assessments, hoisting equipment, and specialised bathing equipment.

Equipment for Independence Ltd does not sell hoisting equipment or electric wheelchairs as it is our policy that this level of equipment should be suitably assessed for by qualified clinicians¸ however where appropriate this equipment can be accessed through our resources.

Equipment for Independence Ltd also has access to a network of occupational therapists nationwide that are specialised in various areas of assessment, such as paediatrics, neurology, spinal injuries and head injuries. Therefore if you considered that your equipment needs are best met through specialist assessment then do not hesitate to contact us for further assistance.

The assessment package will include

• Home visit carried out by a qualified occupational therapist
• Client’s needs identified within the home environment
• Assessment will include, but not limited to, the areas of bathing, access to the home, transfers, managing in the kitchen, falls assessment, eating, safety at home assessment and communication.
• Recommendations to meet the client’s needs will be offered in the report and supported, where appropriate, with evidence and clinical reasoning.
• Summary and outcome will offer details of recommendations for equipment, adaptations, treatment and advice to make changes to the environment to maximise independence.

Equipment for Independence Ltd fees are as follows;

Clinical face to face contact time	£60 per hour
Writing of the Report	£30 per hour
Telephone consultation with client after initial 30 minutes	£10 per hour
Liaising with manufacturers, supplies etc	No Charge
Follow up visit	No Charge
Travelling Time	£18 per hour
Millage	£0.60 per mile
